Lagos state Government discovers 600 distressed building in one year

Over 600 distressed buildings have been discovered in Lagos in the last one year.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Toyin Ayinde who disclosed this today, said some of the buildings that collapsed recently were still under construction and located in obscure areas of the state.
Mr. Ayinde decried the attitude of some property developers who carry out illegal construction at night, weekends and public Holidays, warning that they will be prosecuted, when found.
He called on the public to report any construction taking place at odd times to the Ministry.

Lagos State Government begin preliminary work on the Fourth Mainland Bridge.

The Lagos State Government has begun a preliminary work on the
Fourth Mainland Bridge. The 26-kilometre bridge would be designed to link
Ikorodu to the state’s economic hub in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Works and Infrastructure Commissioner, Obafemi Hamzat, said there was no
problem on the development of the project contrary to speculations that it
had been abandoned.

Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Abdul-Azeez Arisekola-Alao has urged the newly
inaugurated executive of Muslim Community of Oyo State, to promote Islam
according to its tenets.
Alhaji Arisekola-Alao while inaugurating the new executives led by Ishaq
Sanni, urged them to foster unity and peace among Muslims in the state.
Alhaji Arisekola-Alao, who doubles as Deputy President-General of Nigeria
Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, urged all to support the new executives
in the task ahead.

AD Decries Tricycle Ban in Lagos

A chieftain of the Alliance for Democracy in Lagos, Kola Ajayi, has decried
the ban on commercial tricycles on major highways in Lagos.
Chief Ajayi, who is the Chairman of the AD in Lagos State, said the ban is
unnecessary, considering the suffering of millions of Lagos residents, who
depend on tricycles for transportation. He said after the ban on Okada on
almost all roads in Lagos State, moving round the state has become tortuous
for residents.

Ongoing Lagos State Projects Cost Over N1 trillion, Says Fashola

The Lagos State Government says it is currently executing capital projects
worth N1 trillion across the state. The projects include the blue line
intra-city rail system, roads, houses, jetties, water works, dredging of
river and water channels, courts and classrooms.
Governor Babatunde Fashola, who disclosed these, said the state requires
more funds to complete them before May 2015.
He said all the projects cost over N1 trillion and the state does not have
enough funds for now.
