Siasia faces the sack as NFF meets on Thursday

Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee, Chris Green, on Monday gave the hint that Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia could be sacked soon. The Eagles failed to qualify for the Africa Nations Cup after playing 2-2 with Guinea at the National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday. Siasia has been criticised by Nigerians for the way he handled disciplinary issues in the team and for the kind of players he invited. After the draw on Saturday, NFF called on the technical committee to meet and come up with recommendations on the future of the national team. Green said on Monday that Siasia’s contract mandated him to reach the semifinals of the Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon next January but the coach did not even qualify for the championship.

Osaze Odemwingie left Nigeria's De Vere Village Hotel in Watford on Monday night to return to Birmingham. The forward has been struggling with an ankle injury over the last two months, and has now decided to go for surgery. Odemwingie spoke with the West Brom doctors and was examined by the Nigeria medical team and an agreement was reached for him to have surgery immediately on his ankle. The operation has been scheduled for Wednesday in Amsterdam, and the striker will fly out on Wednesday morning. "It is his career on the line, and it is very important for us to put the health and welfare of our players first above everything else," Nigeria coach Samson Siasia said. "Osaze has been playing with painkillers and after speaking with the doctor, we all agreed that he should have his surgery as soon as possible." The striker will not only miss Nigeria's friendly against Ghana, but will also be unavailable for the Baggies' two derbies against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa.

Egyptian FA request to be replaced as Olympic qualifying tournament hosts

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have requested that Caf find a replacement for the 2012 Olympic qualifying tournament due to security concerns. The tournament, which is scheduled from November 26 to December 10, coincides with the dates set for parliamentary elections and Egyptian officials have decided that hosting the event would be risky considering the tense political situation in their country. “Authorities in Egypt requested not to stage the tournament on home soil because it is equivalent to the timing of the parliamentary elections, which require massive security,” EFA spokesman Azmi Megahed said while speaking to FilGoal.com. Caf have yet to respond to the EFA request but, according to Ahram, early indications are that Algeria are poised to replace the Pharaohs as hosts for the competition. Eight teams, including Egypt, Gabon, South Africa, and Cote D’Ivoire in Group A and Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, and Senegal in Group B, will vie for just three automatic places reserved for African sides at the 2012 Olympics. The team that finishes fourth will face an Afc opponent in a play-off to determine who travels to London next year.
