Rivers State senior secondary schools board has refunded 1.6million naira to parents and wards as part of the illegal fees collected by Fifty-four school principals last year.

The chairman of the board, David Briggs while issuing cheques to principals of community secondary school, Eked, and Bodo city girls secondary school, Bodo warned the affected school principals to ensure they carry out carry out instructions given to them by the board.

Mr. Briggs said a team has been constituted by the board to monitor how the money will be disbursed to the parents and wards.

According to him, “if you know you collected money, you can establish, refund it to these parents. But where it is difficult, please apply it for the use and proper use of the school". 

He further stated that; "of importance is the fact that the board will go round, of course those of you who are principals know how we move, we will be there, we have already set up a team to see what you have done with this money”.

The event was witnessed by commissioner for education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku and members of the parents’ teachers association from schools involved in the illegal fees collection.
