Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson does not believe Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be leaving the club, following reports of a potential move to China.

Wayne Rooney has seen himself lose his starting spot under manager Jose Mourinho, fuelling reports of a departure from Manchester United – where he has established himself as the club’s all time leading goalscorer – for a big money move to the Chinese league.

69 year old Eriksson who himself is a manager in the Chinese second division with Shenzhen FC, says Wayne Rooney still has years of top level football left in him during an interview with Omnisport.

"I would be surprised if he wasn't in the United or the England team for the next years. I'm quite sure he will be. He is a proud man. He is a skilful man and he is a man that can play many different positions.

"I hope to see Rooney on the biggest stage for many years still. One day he might end up in China."

Eriksson also says he sees fellow countryman and Swedish football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic getting a contract extension at Manchester United.
