Emohua Council Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, has explained why some local government chairmen in Rivers State approached the Federal High Court in Abuja over the yet-to-be-conducted local government election.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, he said citizens of Rivers State should question the root causes prompting the chairmen to seek legal intervention regarding the elections.

He added that the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State Assembly resorted to the “doctrine of necessity” by passing the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill into law and overriding the assent of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, due to the governor’s inability to conduct the election.

Dr Lloyd also revealed that the Federal High Court has issued an interim order protecting local government funds in Rivers State. This order, he said, also ensures that “security men should not be withdrawn” from the chairmen, and the chairmen should have “unhindered access” to their offices.
