Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjear says his latest signing, Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, will give the Red Devils “an option of a different type of centre-forward.”
United confirmed Ighalo’s signing on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua until the end of the season – one of the shock moves of the January Transfer Window.
Speaking on the club’s website, the United manager said: “Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.”
Solskjear also noted that the 30year old is “a great lad and very professional,” insisting that the top scorer at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations “will make the most of his time,” at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, in a statement confirming Ighalo’s move, Manchester United noted that the Nigerian international is set to bolster the “squad for the second half of the campaign.”
Ighalo is expected to compete for the Old Trafford giants “in the Premier League, UEFA Europa League and Emirates FA Cup.”
The Super Eagles striker started his career with Prime FC of Osogbo before joining former Nigerian Champions, Julius Berger.
He moved abroad in 2007 to join Lyn in Norway where he scored 9 goals in 20 appearances.
Italian side Udinese came calling in 2008 and he moved on loan to Granada (twice), Cesena and Watford in the Premier League.
The Nigerian striker scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for his English side before joining Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua.
