Twitter Nigerian: [email protected]#k … ):
Nigerian Afro-fusion sensation Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy has sparked outrage on social media for declaring himself the best in the country music industry since Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
In a post shared via his twitter, the Grammy award nominee also said he didn’t care about being the best because “the world can do without the best.”
FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless.— Burna Boy (@burnaboy) February 12, 2020
The ‘Ye’ crooner also claimed he brought respect to the Afrobeat genre while others were begging for mainstream recognition.
Lol. NOBODY paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I bin Out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the Respect you currently enjoy. https://t.co/oPS1HjPrEl— Burna Boy (@burnaboy) February 12, 2020
This claim by the self-acclaimed African Giant has not gone unnoticed and many Nigerians on social media are coming out to give their 2 Kobo on the matter.
Some outrightly called him proud and arrogant.

Be your own greatest hypeman
Jose Mourinho: I am not one of the bottle, I am the Special one
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: I do not need a trophy to tell me, I am the best
Mohammed Ali: I am the Greatest
Burna Boy: I am an African Giant.
Burna is literally Mohammed Ali.— C H U K W U K A X A V I E R (@chukaobi) February 13, 2020
Ali got cancelled by so many first for giving everyone lip, then for becoming a Muslim, then for refusing to support the Vietnam war. Was an outcast for years.
Still came back and beasted on them. https://t.co/1EDYz4XCP5 pic.twitter.com/SwFL6d4V1w
I’m glad Burna really blew up again and even bigger because I’d never forget how canceled he was. Like Mans was literally Blacklisted. Even then it was so clear he was better than bare Mans. But Naija only recognizes popular...— Raezy On Tha Radio (@RaezyWinston) February 12, 2020
so now he is so big let him say what TF he wants.
And because a part of the conversation touched on the foundations of music in the country, CoolFM's Do2dtun reminded us of previous work done by some 'OGs'.
Fela, King Sunny Ade, Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, 2face, Dbanj, Femi Kuti are still the Julius Berger of music in this country. Take it or leave it.. No man is indispensable but these ones were exceptional.— Do2dtun Energy gAD (@iamDo2dtun) February 12, 2020
Some brought up his back and forth on social media and advised his phone be collected from him.
Burna Boy: I don’t care about streams and views because they’re fake— Trouble Maker 😒(G.O). (@ObongRoviel) February 12, 2020
Burna: I’m so happy to hit 100m streams..
Burna: Foreign Recognition is Scam and slavery..
Burna: I’m so happy to be recognized for Grammy...
Burna: Nobody paved way for me..
Please Collect his phone now!!
Any man who must say, "I am the King", is no true king.

And someone suggested that this might just be another publicity stunt, similar to the events that led to his African Giant brouhaha
After the events of 2019 led Burna to name his album 'African Giant,' I think we know what his next album will be titled... 🙃🤒— Motolani 'priMO' Alake (@OneMotolani) February 13, 2020
