The Super Eagles kicked off their Group C campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the Fez Stadium.

Despite difficult weather conditions and a resilient Tanzanian side, Nigeria secured all three points, firmly in contention for the group top spot. Defender Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 36th minute, heading home a cross from Alex Iwobi.

After Tanzania shocked the Eagles with an equalizer just after the break (50'), Ademola Lookman restored the lead just two minutes later (52') with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box.

The scoreline flattered Tanzania slightly, as Nigeria was dominant but "wasteful" in front of goal.

Victor Osimhen had a frustrating night, missing chances to kill the game off before being substituted for Paul Onuachu in the 89th minute.

Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle praised the result but urged greater focus and discipline, acknowledging the team needs to be more clinical against stronger opposition.
