A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, has called for a transparent and competitive primary election, rejecting moves toward a consensus arrangement in selecting the party’s candidate.

Ajose made his position known after picking up the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination form for the 2027 governorship election.

The businessman and party chieftain announced the development on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing his ambition as a step toward serving Lagos State.

Reacting to the push for a consensus candidate, Ajose said: “If our leadership has decided that they want to go on consensus, they shouldn’t have been selling the forms to us.”

Outgoing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred APC candidate.

Similarly, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest advisory body of the party in Lagos, has also backed Hamzat as the consensus candidate for the governorship race.

Ajose’s stance underscores growing concerns among some aspirants over the adoption of a consensus option, as party stakeholders continue consultations ahead of the primaries.
