This is happening barely four days after two people lost their lives in a building collapse in the Oyingbo area of the State.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred at 28 Baale Alayabiagba Street.
He said the building, which had a penthouse, caved in while workers were manually demolishing it, trapping several people under the debris.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that emergency responders rescued eight adult males who sustained various injuries, while one person was recovered dead.
The injured victims were given first aid treatment at the scene before being taken to Ajeromi General Hospital for further medical attention.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, also confirmed the incident, stating that one fatality had been recorded. Rescue operations continued late into Thursday to ensure no one else was trapped beneath the rubble.
Lagos has witnessed a worrying surge in building collapses in recent times. Monday’s tragedy in Oyingbo and previous incidents in areas like Mangoro and Ebute Metta have heightened public concern over the structural integrity of buildings across the state.
