Troops of the Nigerian Army under 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim, was apprehended on February 12, 2026, in Ibi Local Government Area following credible intelligence.
Troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari acted swiftly on the tip-off, leading to his arrest.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of six PKT machine guns, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, ₦170,000 in cash, a Peugeot 504 vehicle, a Q Seven mobile phone, seven bottles and wraps of perfume, and two small containers of Vaseline.
The suspect, a native of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
In a statement issued by Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, the Army said the successful interception had denied criminal elements the opportunity to proliferate illegal weapons within the state.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the troops and urged them to sustain the operational tempo in line with the mandate of the Chief of Army Staff.
He also appreciated residents for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation and called on the public to remain security conscious and continue supporting security agencies with actionable information.
The Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and restoring lasting peace and stability across Taraba State.
