No fewer than eight people have been killed in Niger State after a vehicle struck a bomb allegedly planted on a road by terrorists.

The explosion also destroyed a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area, cutting off movement between several communities in the area.

The destroyed bridge served as a major route for traders travelling to the Babana border market held every Monday.

Sources said the victims were travelling between Nuku and Woro when the explosion occurred, killing all occupants of the vehicle.

The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, adding that security operatives are working to secure and clear the area.

In a related development, a suspected bomb explosion has also hit Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, with many people feared dead.

Although no group has officially claimed responsibility for the explosion, residents believe the attack may be linked to Boko Haram terrorists.

The incident reportedly comes just weeks after a previous attack in the area where several people were killed and houses destroyed.

Following the earlier attack, President Bola Tinubu had ordered the deployment of soldiers to the area to strengthen security operations.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from authorities regarding the latest explosion in the Kwara community.
