China has endorsed the U.S. peace plan aimed at ending the Gaza war, urging both Israel and Palestine to accept the proposal and move toward a comprehensive ceasefire.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakan said in Beijing on Tuesday that China supports all efforts to de-escalate tensions and reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution.
“China is committed to the principle that Palestinians must govern Palestine and that the two-state solution must be implemented,” Guo said.
The U.S. plan, presented by President Donald Trump, outlines a 20-point roadmap including the swift release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, as well as Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.
The strip would then be administered by a transitional government of Palestinian technocrats under the oversight of an international committee.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the proposal on Monday, while China—one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council—called for immediate action to implement the plan and restore peace in the region.
