The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the mother and sister of slain terrorist kingpin, Kachallah Ibrahim Battujo, to 40 years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.

Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa handed down the sentence after Safiya Salihu and Halima Abdullahi pleaded guilty to three counts in a five-count charge brought by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The women were arrested by the Department of State Services over their alleged links to Battujo, who was killed by security forces on June 10, 2026, after a failed attempt to abduct students writing the WAEC examination in Kogi State.

According to the prosecution, the two women aided Battujo by passing information to him through telephone conversations and failed to disclose information about his possession of firearms and involvement in terrorist activities.

Two other counts bordering on receiving ₦490,300 allegedly linked to terrorism proceeds and sponsoring a religious pilgrimage with the funds were struck out following an application by the Director of Public Prosecution, Oyedepo Rotimi, SAN.

Justice Yilwa sentenced the women to 20 years imprisonment on each of the two counts, but ordered that the terms run concurrently, meaning they will serve 20 years in prison.

The court also directed that the convicts undergo rehabilitation after completing their jail terms.

Battujo was linked to banditry and terrorism activities in Kogi State and was killed by security forces after an attack targeting students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area was foiled.
