Fire Guts Part of CBN Office in Benue

An early morning fire has burnt a part of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Markudi, Benue State.

The fire reportedly started from the fuel vault of the bank, sending a thick cloud of smoke up in the air.

An eyewitness says firefighters arrived at the scene an hour after the inferno started and put out the fire.

History of Fires

On 25 March 2014, a fire broke out on the first floor of the Lagos office of the CBN after the close of work.

The bank did not state was caused the inferno, but it was believed to have been ignited by a power surge.

The fire was put out by a team of firefighters from the CBN and other institutions.

Another fire burnt one of two generator houses of the CBN headquarters in Abuja on 1 May 2018.

It was put out by the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service.
