A Fulani socio-cultural organisation, The Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria, has called on President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other South-West governors to caution Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over alleged threats directed at Fulani communities in Oyo State.

In a statement on Sunday, the group said Igboho reportedly issued an ultimatum to Fulani leaders over the alleged abduction of a woman and her children, warning of retaliation if the victims were not released within two hours.

The group quoted Igboho as saying he was prepared to confront suspected kidnappers and invade a forest reserve allegedly used as their hideout if the victims were not freed.

Reacting, the organisation warned that profiling Fulani communities for crimes allegedly committed by individuals could deepen ethnic tensions and worsen insecurity in the country.

Signed by its convener, Ibrahim Barkindo Chubado, the group said Fulani people should not be collectively blamed for criminal acts, adding that offenders should be treated as individuals regardless of ethnicity.

It also alleged that past communal clashes in parts of Oyo State led to the killing and displacement of Fulani residents, including women and children.

The group called for evidence-based investigations into security incidents and urged authorities to avoid ethnic generalisations in addressing criminal activity.

It further appealed to Tinubu and South-West governors to intervene and promote peaceful coexistence among communities, while urging Nigerians to support security agencies in tackling kidnapping and banditry.
