Home Box Office (HBO) will premiere its new documentary, Music Box: Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, on December 11, offering a vivid look at Wizkid’s journey from Lagos to global superstardom.

The 85-minute film, directed by Karam Gill and executive-produced by Bill Simmons, will air on HBO in the U.S. at 9 p.m., which is 3 a.m. in Nigeria, and stream on Max.

The documentary captures Wizkid’s rise from making music in Surulere to becoming the first African artist to sell out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2023, a milestone that reshaped global conversations around Afrobeats.

Through exclusive footage and interviews, it highlights how he built his career with little industry structure, relying on talent and determination to push Nigerian music onto the world stage.

Long Live Lagos also explores the cultural ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, touching on history, migration, and the digital platforms that helped African music travel worldwide.

Music icons and cultural figures such as Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, Julie Adenuga, Jada Pollock, and Sunday Are reflect on Wizkid’s influence across Africa and the diaspora.

By grounding Wizkid’s story within Afrobeats’ global ascent, the film presents him as a bridge between continents and a key voice reshaping perceptions of modern African creativity.
