The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The deadline, which was contained in the Commission's Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, was initially set to expire on Saturday, July 11.

INEC said the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), acting on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

According to the Commission, the decision underscores its commitment to ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process while acting within the provisions of the law.

INEC also urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional window to complete the upload of all required candidate information before the new deadline expires at midnight on Tuesday.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, on Sunday.
