Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has commended curity agencies for arresting three suspected members of the kidnapping gang behind the August 2 attack on St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Inoyi-Affa, in Udi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested during a joint operation involving the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Forest Guard and other security personnel.
The operation reportedly resulted in a gun battle in which one suspected kidnapper was killed, while four AK-47 rifles and a cache of ammunition were recovered.
Mbah, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, commended the security forces during a visit to the state DSS headquarters on Monday night to see the arrested suspects.
Onyia also disclosed that two of the three victims abducted during the August 2 attack seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi had regain their freedom.
According to him, the two victims positively identified the arrested suspects as their abductors.
The SSG assured residents that the Mbah administration would continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property through sustained investment in the state's security architecture.
He said the government would continue to pursue criminals operating in the state, warning that anyone involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
He further commended the DSS, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Forest Guard and other security agencies for their cooperation and gallantry in the operation.
