Nigeria has congratulated Ghana as the country marks its 69th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended Nigeria’s best wishes to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as the country celebrates its historic independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
The statement noted that Nigeria and Ghana share deep historical and cultural ties, as well as common aspirations for peace, prosperity and African unity.
It added that both countries have maintained strong cooperation over the years in areas such as trade, education, energy, defence, migration management and cultural exchange.
Nigeria also acknowledged Ghana’s role in promoting democracy and regional stability through peacekeeping missions, mediation and conflict prevention efforts across West Africa.
The government further praised the resilience and creativity of the Ghanaian people while recognising the country’s Heritage Month celebrations that showcase its rich culture and creative industries.
Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural relations with Ghana in pursuit of regional prosperity and African integration.
The statement added that Nigeria joins the people of Ghana in celebrating the anniversary and wishes the country continued peace, democratic progress and sustainable development.
