The Nigerian Navy has announced a significant promotion of 127 senior officers, a move set to reshape its top leadership echelons.
The promotions, approved by the Navy Board on Thursday, see 15 Commodores elevated to the rank of Rear Admiral, 31 Captains to the rank of Commodore, and 81 Commanders to the rank of Captain.
In a statement, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, extended his congratulations to the officers and their families.
He also charged them with heightened responsibility, urging them to "rededicate themselves to their responsibilities and remain loyal to the nation and the Commander-in-Chief."
This mass promotion is seen as a strategic effort to reinvigorate the naval command structure, filling key positions with experienced personnel.
The newly promoted Rear Admirals include prominent names such as Olumide Olajide Fadahunsi, Patrick Emuebie Meteke, and Sulieman Wale Olorundare, who are expected to take on crucial operational and strategic roles.
The restructured leadership is anticipated to bolster the Navy's ongoing missions, including the fight against maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea and the protection of Nigeria's territorial waters.
