Commercial motorcycle operators in Oyo State will no longer be allowed on the roads between 10:30 pm and 5:30 am, following an executive order signed by Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday.

Makinde said the restriction, which applies statewide, is part of a broader set of measures aimed at strengthening security and improving traffic management across the state.

The ban comes three weeks after a mass abduction shook the state. On May 15, over 40 parents and schoolchildren were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area.

As of the signing of the executive order, the victims had been in captivity for 20 days.

Makinde addressed the abduction directly, acknowledging the anguish of families while defending the government's silence on operational details.

"Every day they remain in captivity is a painful day for their families, their communities and all of us in Oyo State," the governor said.

"I want to assure our people that efforts are ongoing around the clock, and the safe return of those abducted remains the top priority of this administration."

He added that the government could not disclose details of ongoing rescue operations because of their sensitive nature, urging residents not to mistake the silence for inaction, and affirming that security agencies remain fully engaged behind the scenes.

Makinde also reminded residents that the state's toll-free emergency line, 615, remains available for reporting security incidents and called on the public to cooperate with security agencies, noting that security is a shared responsibility.
