The 2026 Osun governorship election produced a clear divide between the two leading candidates and the other contenders, with 13 candidates collectively polling only a small fraction of the votes.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party topped the poll with 511,067 votes, while APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji followed with 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, was a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Beyond the three leading candidates, the numbers dropped sharply.
Yemisi Opawoye of the African Democratic Party, the only female candidate in the race, polled 2,946 votes.
Olufemi Adesuyi of the Zenith Labour Party received 2,482 votes, while Action Alliance candidate Olanrewaju Farinloye got 2,308 votes.
Adesina Adeyemi Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance polled 1,474 votes, while Olajide Esan of the African Action Congress received 1,458 votes.
Young Progressives Party candidate Olalekan Ogunsakin got 534 votes.
Adebayo Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement polled 234 votes, while Social Democratic Party candidate Francis Olugbenga Ajala received 155 votes.
Ajala was added to the race following a court order.
Taofeek Adeleke of the New Nigeria Peoples Party received 118 votes, while Clement Adesuyi of the Action Peoples Party polled 114.
Masilo Adeleke of the Boot Party received 111 votes.
Saliu Oyelami of the Peoples Redemption Party recorded the lowest figure among the 15 candidates, with 83 votes.
The results were announced on Sunday by Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the Returning Officer for the election.
The figures show just how concentrated the contest became, with Adeleke and Oyebamiji taking the overwhelming majority of the votes while the other 13 candidates struggled to make a significant impact.
For some of the smaller parties, the election therefore ended less as a contest for the governorship and more as a test of their ability to establish a presence in Osun’s political landscape.
