At least 23 people have been killed and 108 others injured after multiple bomb explosions hit Maiduguri, police said on Tuesday.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the casualties in a statement following the attacks, which took place on Monday evening in busy parts of the city.

“Regrettably, a total of 23 persons lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” police spokesperson Nahum Daso said.

The explosions struck crowded locations, including the Post Office area, Monday Market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, causing panic and chaos.

Authorities said early investigations show the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers,” the police said.

No group has claimed responsibility, but security experts suspect extremist groups such as Boko Haram or its affiliates, which have carried out similar attacks in the region.

Emergency responders quickly moved victims to hospitals, while security forces increased patrols across the city.

Officials say the attack is one of the deadliest in Maiduguri in recent years, a city that had seen relative calm before the incident.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but alert as investigations continue and efforts are made to prevent further attacks.
