Rivers Crisis: Five pro-Wike Commissioners Resign from Fubara's Cabinet

Five commissioners loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have tendered their resignations from the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration.

This follows the recent political upheaval in the state between Governor Fubara and the immediate past governor and current FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.

The commissioners who have resigned are Prof. Chinedu Mmom (Education), Dr. Gift Worlu (Housing), Austen Ben-Chioma (Environment), Inime Aguma (Social Welfare), and Jacobson Nbina (Transport), who are all loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The now-resigned commissioners attributed their departures to a toxic working environment, which they claim has made it untenable for them to continue in their roles.

They were among a group of commissioners who previously resigned in December amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State.

They were, however, reinstated into Governor Fubara’s cabinet after an intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that Governor Fubara days ago vowed to probe previous administrations of the state.

These resignations signal a deepening rift within the political landscape of Rivers State
