The United States Secret Service has launched an investigation into a shooting near the venue of the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The incident happened close to the Washington Hilton, specifically near a security screening area where guests were being checked.
Authorities say the shooting occurred near the main magnetometer checkpoint, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement officers stationed at the venue.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that all protected individuals, including the president and first lady, are safe.
Officials also say one suspect has been taken into custody, while the condition of those involved is still being assessed.
The Secret Service, working alongside local police, says investigations are ongoing, with more updates expected as details become clearer.
