At least five state governments have begun evacuating their indigenes from the University of Jos following escalating violence in Plateau State.
The move comes after deadly attacks in Angwan Rukuba, where over 28 people were killed, with tensions spreading toward areas around the campus.
Authorities of the university, led by Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya, have since suspended examinations and directed students to vacate hostels over safety concerns.
States including Benue State, Taraba State, Bauchi State, Kogi State and Adamawa State confirmed evacuations, deploying buses and security escorts to return students home safely.
Some states say the action is to protect students amid growing fears, with reports of attacks and rising insecurity around the university environment.
Meanwhile, authorities have eased the curfew in parts of Jos to allow movement, but concerns remain over the volatile situation.
