At least 13 people, mostly children and the elderly, have been killed in renewed attacks on communities in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

In Juwan village, Tangur District of Bokkos LGA, suspected herdsmen launched a night assault on Thursday, killing 10 people and injuring several others. Victims were reportedly attacked in their homes, with assailants breaking into houses through the ceiling where necessary.

Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Amalau Samuel, described the killings as "barbaric and inhuman," lamenting that those affected were mostly vulnerable individuals who could not flee.

Elsewhere in Manja community, Chafem Chiefdom of Mangu LGA, three farmers were killed while working on their farmland. Security forces were later deployed to repel the attackers.

According to Mathew Kwarpo, the lawmaker representing Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, the assailants later returned, burning down more than 20 houses and displacing residents.

“These attacks are becoming unbearable,” Kwarpo said. “We call on President Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene. This appears to be a calculated attempt to take over our land.”

Communities across Bokkos, Bassa, and Mangu have faced persistent violence in recent months, leading to widespread displacement and destruction.
