President Bola Tinubu has put forward three non-career diplomats to serve as Nigeria’s ambassadors to the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.

Their appointments will take effect after Senate screening and confirmation.

The nominees include Ayodele Oke, Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are, and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu.

Dalhatu is returning to diplomatic service, having previously served as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea under former President Muhammadu Buhari after his initial appointment in 2016.

Oke is a former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). He earlier represented Nigeria at the Secretariat of the Commonwealth of Nations in London.

Are brings decades of security and intelligence experience. The retired colonel led the State Security Service (SSS) from 1999 to 2007, served briefly as National Security Adviser in 2010, and had an extensive career in the Directorate of Military Intelligence.

The nominees await Senate scrutiny as the administration moves to strengthen Nigeria’s representation in three of its most strategic diplomatic postings.
