Uganda has declared an end to its latest Ebola outbreak after the disease infected 20 people and killed two others.
The country's Health Minister announced this on Tuesday, following the discharge of the last known Ebola patient, a Congolese national, on June 22.
The latest outbreak was declared in mid-May, with health officials reporting that 15 of the infected people had links to neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, the epicentre of the wider epidemic.
The DRC has recorded more than 3,000 confirmed Ebola cases, according to the report.
Uganda has experienced several Ebola outbreaks since 2000, but health authorities say the country has developed the expertise to contain outbreaks quickly and limit transmission within communities.
The latest declaration means Uganda is now officially Ebola-free following the successful completion of the required monitoring period without new cases.
The outbreak was caused by the Ebola virus, a severe disease that can lead to fever, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in some cases, internal and external bleeding.
Uganda's latest outbreak was part of a wider regional Ebola emergency that also affected neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
