The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of people in Kano State communities bordering Katsina State.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said “several” residents were kidnapped, but did not give a number.

The police are still compiling details to ascertain the number of victims, he told Nigeria Info.

At least 20 people were abducted by gunmen from several communities in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State during the overnight raid on Monday.

The attacks occurred in villages bordering Katsina State, an area increasingly targeted by armed groups operating along the boundary between the two states.

The gunmen attacked Sundu and Biresawa communities, kidnapping 10 women, young girls, and a bride-to-be who was expected to get married soon.

The attackers then moved to Zakawa and Masaurari, two border settlements between Tsanyawa and Katsina State, where nine men were seized.

This latest violence comes only days after gunmen attacked ’Yan Cibi Tsohon Gari and ’Yan Ganau, also within Tsanyawa Local Government.
