Two people have been confirmed dead, and at least 26 rescued after a two-storey building collapsed early Monday morning in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at 54 Cole Street, near the Cemetery Bus Stop by UBA Bank, after the structure reportedly showed visible signs of distress before giving way.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), the distress call came in around 12:20 a.m., and first responders from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

An earlier LSFRS statement confirmed that 15 adults — seven men, four women, and four children — were rescued with varying degrees of injury. The Director of Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Beatrice Makinde, later told reporters that the total number of rescued victims had risen to 26, while two bodies were recovered from the debris.

Makinde said the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, and General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment. She noted that rescuers had now reached the bottom of the collapsed structure, indicating that no further victims were expected.

She also confirmed that two local volunteers who had been helping with rescue efforts slumped due to exhaustion and heat but were successfully resuscitated and treated on-site.

Emergency teams from LASAMBUS, LSFRS, and other state agencies remain at the scene, conducting final safety checks and clearing debris.
