Violence erupted during All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries in Lagos and Plateau states on Saturday, leaving at least one person dead, several injured and 10 suspects arrested in Lagos, officials said.

In Lagos, chaos broke out at a primary school in the Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government after rival supporters clashed during voting.

Witnesses said hoodlums invaded the venue on Onilewura Street, Liasu Road, and began shooting, forcing voters and party officials to flee.

The Lagos State Police Command said it arrested 10 suspects in connection with the violence and recovered a locally made firearm.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, said no deaths were recorded in the Lagos incident.

“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Division. A gun was recovered,” he said.

He added that investigations were ongoing to identify sponsors and motives, urging residents to remain calm.

In Plateau State, one person identified as Sani Abdullahi was killed during a separate APC primary in Mangu Local Government Area.

Witnesses said tensions rose after delays in the arrival of electoral officials, triggering protests by angry youths.

“The exercise was supposed to hold in the morning, but there were no returning officers,” said resident Ibrahim Sale. “The youths started protesting, and it escalated.”

He said security operatives later intervened to disperse the crowd, during which a stray bullet reportedly struck the victim.

Authorities have yet to issue a full nationwide statement on the dual incidents as of press time.
