The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, asking them to draw lessons from the United States midterm elections.
The party said the results of Tuesday’s elections, which saw the opposition Democrats make significant gains against President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, showed that voters could use their ballots to hold political leaders accountable.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the outcome demonstrated that political power ultimately rested with citizens rather than presidents or ruling parties.
The party argued that elections should be determined by citizens’ welfare rather than political loyalty, sentiments or the popularity of individual leaders.
It said Nigerians had experienced prolonged economic hardship, worsening insecurity and declining opportunities under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, but were being asked to give the APC another mandate.
The ADC urged voters to use their Permanent Voter Cards as instruments of change in 2027, calling for massive participation in the election.
It also presented its proposed agenda under the slogan, “Make Nigeria Affordable Again. Make Nigeria Safe Again. Give Nigerians Jobs Again.”
The party said the American election results showed that voters could demand better governance through the ballot box, urging Nigerians to do the same in the next general election.
The statement comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with the ADC presenting itself as an alternative to the ruling APC.
