The 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP31, opens Monday in Antalya, Türkiye, bringing together world leaders, government officials, academics and civil society groups to address climate change.
The Nov. 9-20 summit comes amid record-breaking temperatures, worsening climate impacts and growing energy insecurity.
It aims to strengthen international cooperation and turn climate commitments into measurable action.
Türkiye will preside over the conference, which is themed “COP of the Future – COP of Implementation,” with a focus on dialogue, consensus and action.
The annual summit provides a platform for countries to assess progress under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, negotiate common solutions and shape global climate policies.
The first conference was held in Berlin in 1995.
Activities will take place in two main areas: the Blue Zone, which will host official negotiations and diplomatic meetings, and the Green Zone, where businesses, researchers, civil society groups and young people will showcase climate solutions.
Discussions will cover climate adaptation, clean energy, climate finance, sustainable cities, technology and public health.
Organisers have prepared a 1.1 million-square-metre venue, with facilities dedicated to science, green industrialisation, resilient cities and sustainable development.
The site will also feature a Zero Waste Museum and a tropical butterfly garden.
Security arrangements will involve 27,957 personnel from the police, gendarmerie and coast guard.
In addition, 630 low-emission buses supplied by 25 municipalities will transport participants.
The conference will run until Nov. 20, with proceedings available through the United Nations climate conference website and digital platform.
