The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun distributing livelihood support items and food assistance to 653 households affected by the 2025 floods in Kebbi State.
The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s nationwide Presidential Post-Flood Intervention Programme, approved by President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar, flagged off the distribution in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. She was represented at the ceremony by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Abbani Imam Garki.
Umar said the intervention was designed to complement earlier humanitarian assistance, speed up the recovery of affected households, restore livelihoods and strengthen communities against future disasters.
She expressed the Federal Government’s sympathy with Nigerians who suffered losses during the 2025 floods, adding that the programme would cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NEMA director general said personnel from the agency’s headquarters and operations offices were working with State Emergency Management Agencies, relevant government ministries and agencies, local government authorities and security agencies to ensure transparent and accountable distribution.
She urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the assistance to rebuild their livelihoods and improve their economic well-being.
Representing Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Aliyu Umar, thanked President Tinubu and NEMA for their continued support to disaster-affected and vulnerable communities in the state.
The Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, represented by the Ubandoman Gwandu, Sadiq Ibrahim-Saad, also commended the intervention and urged beneficiaries to use the items effectively.
Items distributed included sewing machines, grinding machines, cargo tricycles and assorted food supplies.
