Nigerian Army Rescues 119 Kidnap Victims, Recovers Eight Vehicles in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 119 civilians abducted by terrorists and recovered eight vehicles during an operation in Borno State.

The rescue was carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion while monitoring surveillance cameras along the Dutsen Kura-Bulazarma-Kamuya road.

According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, the troops spotted the abduction and mobilised through Mangari-Dora in Biu Local Government Area to intercept the attackers.

The report said the terrorists abandoned their captives and fled after an exchange of fire. The rescued civilians were reunited with their families, while the eight vehicles were recovered.

The troops also discovered and detonated an improvised explosive device near the Bam-Buratai Junction-Bulazarma area.

In a separate operation, a suspected Boko Haram fighter surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion at Ngurusoye Village in Bama Local Government Area.

He reportedly escaped from his group's enclave in Bula Daloye following clashes with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and hardship.

The suspect surrendered with an FN rifle and seven rounds of ammunition and is in military custody. Troops and members of the Hybrid Force also arrested a suspected terrorist informant in Ngamdu Town on November 5.

Meanwhile, troops foiled an attempted abduction of a retired senior military officer and his son at their residence in Kurudu Phase Five, Abuja. The attackers reportedly invaded the residence at about 4:05 a.m. on Saturday but fled after troops intervened.

The victims sustained knife injuries to their shoulders and heads and were taken to a nearby hospital.

In Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace arrested two suspects allegedly attempting to steal chickens from a poultry house in Doi Community, Jos South Local Government Area. They were handed over to the police.

In Benue State, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested a herder over alleged malicious grazing on farmland at Tse Tur, Gwer West Local Government Area.

The suspect remains in military custody.
