The Federal Government says the long delayed Abuja Kaduna highway has reached 80 percent completion, with delivery targeted for the end of April.
The Federal Ministry of Works disclosed this during an inspection tour under its ongoing National Media Tour.
Officials said 60 kilometers of the redesigned Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement have been completed, leaving 21 kilometers outstanding out of the total 81 kilometers across both lanes.
The project is now being handled by Infouest Nigeria Limited after the termination of its previous contract with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Chukwuma Kalu, controller of works on the project, described the highway as the heartbeat of the nation and a top infrastructure priority.
He said the road was redesigned from asphalt to concrete pavement to improve durability and reduce frequent maintenance.
The highway connects the North Central and North West regions to Abuja and also serves as a major corridor linking Lagos to northern Nigeria.
Infouest senior project manager Robert Turner assured that construction teams are working day and night shifts to meet the April deadline.
In a related development, the 43.65 kilometer Maraba Keffi road reconstruction project handled by China Harbour Engineering Construction Company is 90 percent complete and expected to finish by June 2026.
The Ministry said both projects reflect renewed efforts by the administration of Bola Tinubu to strengthen transport infrastructure and boost economic activity nationwide.
