A faction of the African Democratic Congress loyal to former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu has dissolved the party’s National Working Committee led by David Mark and announced a new leadership structure.
The faction made the announcement during its national convention held in Abuja on Sunday, where delegates from different states were in attendance.
Abdulkadir Bashir emerged as the faction’s national chairman, while Johnny Derek was named deputy national chairman.
Other appointments included Kennedy Odion as national secretary, Joe Aro as national treasurer and Chris Ugwu as national publicity secretary.
The faction also appointed Kingsley Oggah as chairman of its Board of Trustees.
The ADC has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with multiple factions laying claim to the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Apart from the David Mark-led camp, other factions are aligned with Nafiu Bala and Dumebi Kachikwu, with each group insisting it represents the authentic leadership of the party.
During the convention, the faction formally adopted its new National Working Committee through a voice vote moved by the party’s Delta State chairman, Austin Okolie, and seconded by Jigawa State chairman, Kabiru Hussaini.
Speaking after his inauguration, Bashir accused the David Mark-led leadership of bias and pledged an inclusive leadership style.
The faction also declared Kachikwu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Chairman of the faction’s Presidential Primaries Electoral Committee, Elias Adikwu, said Kachikwu emerged through consensus shortly after the inauguration of the new executives.
Kachikwu previously contested the 2023 presidential election on the ADC platform.
