The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the digital tax agreement between Nigeria and France, saying the deal raises concerns about transparency, data security and national sovereignty.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement said the party supports tax reforms but faulted the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for signing the agreement without full public disclosure or engagement with the National Assembly.

“Expert opinions suggest the agreement could expose Nigeria’s sensitive economic data to foreign interests,” Abdullahi said, adding that government explanations have failed to reassure Nigerians that the deal serves national interests.

The ADC questioned what France stands to gain from the arrangement and argued that Nigeria has sufficient local capacity to handle digital tax reforms without creating new foreign dependencies.

The party called for the immediate publication of the agreement, a proper briefing of the National Assembly and an independent assessment of its implications for data security and national sovereignty, warning that the MoU should be terminated if full details are not disclosed.
