The African Democratic Congress has described the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as a violation of his fundamental rights.
In a statement, the party said El-Rufai has been held by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission for over 30 days without formal charges.
The ADC alleged the detention is unconstitutional and claimed there are attempts to pressure him to abandon his political affiliations.
According to the party, El-Rufai initially honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before being re-arrested by the ICPC.
It added that he remains in custody with limited access to family and medical care.
The party warned it may petition Amnesty International and other rights groups if he is not released.
The ADC also accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of undermining democratic principles.
It called on authorities, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, to ensure El-Rufai is either released or arraigned in court.
