African Leaders React to Queen Elizabeth’s Death

African leaders have been sending their condolences to the Queen of England who passed at her Balmoral home on Thursday.

The 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth Alexander Mary Winsdor II died after 70 years on the throne.

NIGERIAN PRESIDENT Muhammad Buhari

“My family and I, and the more than 200 million Nigerians, have learned with immense sadness of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and the end of her unique and wonderful 70-year reign. She was the only British Sovereign known to 90 percent of our population”.

“The story of modern Nigeria will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth ll, a towering global personality, and an outstanding leader. She dedicated her life to making her nation, the Commonwealth, and the entire world a better place.”

GHANAIAN PRESIDENT Nana Akufo-Addo

“The Ghanaian people have very fond memories of the two visits she made to Ghana during her reign, and, on both occasions, we remember the friendliness, elegance, style, and sheer joy she brought to the performance of her duties.

“She was a cherished and revered monarch of the British people, the longest-serving in their history, who will be sorely missed. We are saddened by her departure. In honor of her memory, I have directed that all official flags in the nation fly at half-mast for seven (7) days, as from tomorrow, Friday, 9th September.

“May God bless her soul and give her peaceful rest in His Bosom until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen!!”

In his message of condolence and comfort to His Majesty King Charles III, the Royal Family, Prime Minister Liz Trussand the British people, President Kenyatta mourned the 96-year-old monarch as a towering global icon of selfless service to humanity.

We will miss the cordial ties she enjoyed with Kenya and may her memories continue to inspire us. We join the Commonwealth in mourning and offer our condolences to the Royal Family and the United Kingdom.

With the sad passing, today, of Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom has lost one of its greatest ever monarchs and the world has lost a much cherished, revered, and admired Icon.

Queen Elizabeth II’s reign spanned 15 prime ministers ending with Liz Truss who was appointed by her earlier this week.

Her eldest son, Prince Charles is now the King of England. He will be addressed as King Charles III, but his official coronation is not likely to take place for several months.

A formal proclamation will be made as soon as practically possible, at an accession council at St. James Palace.
