Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiu Obasa has laid out an ambitious development agenda centered on sanitation, youth empowerment, security, healthcare and infrastructure, as part of efforts to reposition the council as a cleaner, safer and more economically vibrant community.
Speaking on his administration’s priorities, Obasa said the vision is to change long standing perceptions about Agege and highlight its importance as a strategic hub within Lagos.
According to him, the area’s strong transport connections and commercial activity present major opportunities for growth that the council intends to harness.
A major focus has been environmental sanitation. Obasa disclosed that the council now oversees the daily sweeping of more than 300 inner streets while also maintaining major roads and intensifying enforcement against illegal dumping.
He said cleaner surroundings are essential not just for public health but also for improving the overall image of the community.
Youth development is another pillar of the administration’s plan.
The chairman noted that several young residents have benefited from vocational training programmes and startup support designed to equip them with practical skills and encourage entrepreneurship.
He said empowering young people is key to reducing unemployment and driving local economic activity.
On security, Obasa pointed to expanded patrol operations, closer collaboration with the police and the installation of additional streetlights across the council.
According to him, these measures are already helping to improve safety and reassure residents and businesses.
The chairman added that investments in healthcare services and infrastructure upgrades are ongoing, with the goal of improving living standards and sustaining long term development in Agege.
