The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has approved the deployment of more than 850 troops to Plateau State to curb rising tensions and restore order.

The reinforcements, drawn from formations in Abuja and Kaduna, will support ongoing operations under Operation Enduring Peace, the army said in a statement Thursday.

Speaking to troops at the Joint Task Force headquarters in Jos, Shaibu urged them to remain professional and disciplined in tackling security threats.

“You must remain firm in dealing with criminal elements threatening the peace and security of law-abiding citizens,” he said.

He assured the personnel of adequate logistics and combat support to ensure mission success.

The army said the deployment aims to strengthen efforts to de-escalate tensions, protect lives and property, and guarantee the safety of residents across affected communities.

“The troops have been tasked with restoring law and order and ensuring the security of all residents,” the statement added.
