Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent killings and abduction of civilians in Borno State, describing the incident as disturbing and a reflection of worsening insecurity in the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, Atiku decried the attack by suspected terrorists on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area, where several people were reportedly killed and more than 100 residents abducted.
The attackers were believed to have targeted a military facility and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the area.
The former vice president expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and residents affected by the attack, noting that the persistent wave of killings and kidnappings across parts of Nigeria has left many communities living in fear.
He described the development as deeply troubling and urged authorities to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.
Atiku also criticised the federal government’s handling of the security situation, arguing that recent attacks suggest that the fight against terrorism is not being addressed with the urgency it deserves.
According to him, the continued incidents of violence indicate that the country’s security challenges remain far from over.
The attack in Ngoshe is one of the latest incidents in Nigeria’s North-East, a region that has faced years of insurgency linked to extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province.
Authorities say the assault left several casualties and displaced residents, with many fleeing to nearby communities for safety.
