The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has welcomed the peace agreement signed between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as a significant step toward de-escalating tensions and promoting long-term stability in the Middle East.

In a statement, the AU Commission chair said the agreement reflects the power of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving entrenched international disputes, adding that it offers renewed hope for peace, cooperation, and regional stability in a strategically important part of the world.

He commended the engagement of all parties involved in the process, including U.S. leadership under Donald J. Trump, as well as mediation efforts by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Sultanate of Oman, and the State of Qatar, which he said helped build trust and facilitate dialogue between both sides.

H.E. Youssouf added that the agreement should serve as a foundation for sustained peace, stronger regional cooperation, and enhanced international relations, consistent with the African Union’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through diplomacy.

The African Union Commission reaffirmed its readiness to support all initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, mutual respect, and stability among nations.
