Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has been killed by bandits while in captivity after being abducted in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu'azu Danmusa, confirmed the development on Saturday, saying security authorities had received intelligence indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his captors.
Danmusa, however, noted that security operatives have yet to recover Abubakar's body, adding that efforts are ongoing to locate his remains.
The retired general and his wife were kidnapped by armed bandits on May 30 along the Matazu axis of Katsina State while travelling through the area.
His abduction had sparked widespread concern, with the Katsina State Government and security agencies expressing hope that he would be rescued alive.
Security operations are continuing, while authorities say further details will be provided as investigations progress.
