A bride-to-be and her bridesmaid were among ten people kidnapped in a violent attack on Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area, Sokoto State, early Sunday morning.

The raid occurred around 1:30 a.m. when armed bandits stormed the community, abducting mostly women and one man.

One person was injured and is receiving medical care.

Residents told reporters the bride was preparing for her wedding scheduled for later that day when the attackers struck.

A community member, speaking anonymously, described the event as tragic, lamenting the delayed arrival of security forces who came an hour after the bandits fled.

“We are calling on the government to take its responsibility seriously and protect the lives and property of citizens,” he urged.

Sokoto State Police spokesman DSP Ahmad Rufa’i confirmed the attack, saying preliminary reports have been received and investigations are ongoing.

This incident adds to a disturbing rise in mass abductions across Nigeria.

Earlier on Sunday, gunmen attacked a church in Ejiba, Kogi State, kidnapping the pastor, his wife, and several congregants during service, throwing the community into chaos.

These attacks highlight the urgent need for strengthened security measures nationwide as innocent citizens continue to suffer from escalating violence.
