The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has nullified the emergence of Professor Isa Ali Pantami as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Gombe State and ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary election.
Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed gave the order on Thursday in a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged Pantami’s emergence as the PDP candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Garry had argued that the party failed to conduct the required primary election before announcing Pantami as its candidate on June 26, 2026.
Pantami, a former minister and one-time governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, joined the PDP after the APC settled on Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate.
He subsequently secured the PDP ticket through voice affirmation at the party’s governorship primary held in May.
In its judgment, the court ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh governorship primary in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
The ruling effectively nullifies Pantami’s current PDP governorship ticket and requires the party to begin the process of selecting its candidate again.
