A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday restrained the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from suspending or expelling the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, from the party.
Justice James Omotosho made the order following an ex-parte motion filed by the governor against the PDP and its top officials.
Governor Wike had sued the PDP, its National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Others joined in the application dated and filed on 2 February are the national chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu; the national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The governor prayed for an order directing all parties to maintain the status quo and stay all actions in the matter relating to the threat to suspend or expel him pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.
The judge adjourned the matter until 14 February for a hearing.
